Sticky Notes FAQ
Where are Sticky Notes stored on my computer?
They are stored as standard RTFD files, which can be opened by TextEdit, in a folder inside your home directory at ~/Library/Application Support/Sticky Notes/
How do I move my Sticky Notes to a new computer?
You need to copy the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Sticky Notes/ to the same place on the new computer and the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.randomsequence.stickynotes.plist to the same location on the new computer
I have multiple monitors. How do I move notes from one to the other with snapping turned on?
Hold down the option (alt) key while dragging to temporarily turn off snapping. The note will then snap to the edges of the other monitor
I cannot send notes to users on the network
If you are using a firewall you may not be able receive notes from other users. In the sharing preference pane of Sticky Notes 1.2 or greater, you can specify the port number Sticky Notes should use. You need to enable incoming connections on the port chosen here to receive notes.
The registration file you sent me doesn’t work
Some email clients do not correctly decode the registration file which arrives attached to an email. In may cases this can be resolved by dragging the registration file first to the desktop and then to the Sticky Notes Regsitration Window
If you have tried this and are still having problems please contact us at the email address below or by the form on the feedback page. To help us please include the versions of Mac OS and Sticky Notes you have and which email program you use
I’ve lost my registration information / serial number
From Sticky Notes 1.5, we use a new registration system. You can obtain a copy of your registration information by entering the email address you registered with on the Lost serial number page
For other applications and for older versions of Sticky Notes, please contact us
Does Sticky Notes have a service menu item like Stickies does?
Yes, Sticky Notes has the same ‘create new Sticky Note’ service item with the same keyboard shortcut (cmd-Y).
To use Sticky Notes’ service instead of Stickies for this command first remove Apple Stickies from your /Applications folder. This is most easily done by ctrl-clicking on the Stickies Application icon, choosing ‘Create Archive’ and then deleting Stickies.
You can restore Apple Stickies at any time by double-clicking on the newly created ‘Stickies.zip’.
Can I attach notes to a specific document, rather than by application?
Unfortunately the system does not provide the information needed for Sticky Notes to know which document you’re currently editing. We regret to say that we cannot implement this feature.
Can you add feature X?
Possibly. We can’t add every requested feature, but if your suggestion is a good one it will be added to the list for future versions. Feedback like this is always welcome. To send feedback, please use the form on the feedback page or email us at the address below
